Brian Fitzpatrick is worried. Suddenly he is sending out multiple mass emails and social media posts and appearing on Fox, CBS, CNN and more. This is quite a change from his low profile campaign during the last election cycle. The wind is changing, the rage is growing and Fitzpatrick knows he needs to work to finesse his way to another term in office. He posted on X that he is “fiercely independent.” Fitz has indeed cast some purple votes that crossed the aisle, but when one scratches the surface, when the votes could make a true bi-partisan difference, his votes are MAGA Republican red. Fitzpatrick tells us that he voted against the second Big Beautiful Bill, but we know that vote was meaningless and moot: 218-214. We must remember the first time the bill was voted on in the House, when it passed by just one vote, 215-214, because then, when it mattered, Fitzpatrick voted red instead. Fitzpatrick voted with Democrats on a resolution disapproving Trump’s Canada tariffs, another vote likely moot, for even if it passes in the Senate, Trump will veto it. Yet prior to this resolution Fitzpatrick voted with Republicans on a procedural measure to block House votes on Trump’s tariffs through July 31. The resolution failed, with three Republicans crossing the aisle. Fitzpatrick was not one of them. Fitzpatrick, reading the room, joined Democrats’ DHS fight, supporting banning masks for ICE agents. Not so for the SAVE Act, an act which will infringe on states’ rights, and disenfranchise women, minorities and the poor. Fitz showed his true colors, voting MAGA Republican red. Fitz is not fiercely independent, he is fiercely strategic, walking a calculated line, sprinkling in a few largely meaningless bi-partisan votes to pad his resume. Moderate when it’s moot, MAGA when it matters. We can’t afford an ersatz moderate Republican like Fitzpatrick. We need a true blue Democrat who will fiercely stand for the people of this district.
