Silence is compliance

Trump reacted with outrage and a call to violence when six  Democratic lawmakers,  including Pennsylvania Representatives Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan, had the temerity to remind our members of the military of their oath to the Constitution, “you have a duty to follow lawful orders.”  Trump’s response? “Punishable by death!” Hoo boy. Governor Josh Shapiro warned, “Trump is actively encouraging political violence.”  Even Senator John Fetterman, recalling his Democrat roots, chimed in, “Do not threaten Members of Congress. Republican or Democrat.”  Republicans have remained silent, including our US representative, Brian Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick  joined his Republican sheep, refusing to  support his fellow Pennsylvania Representatives in their simple call to the military to honor their oath and the Constitution. That silence is compliance. Compliance with Trump’s unhinged railing and death threats against rival politicians. Compliance with extra-judicial bombings of Venezuelan fishing boats. Compliance with Border Patrol arrests of American citizens.  Compliance with (thankfully outgoing) Sheriff Fred Harran’s partnership with ICE.  Compliance with an increasingly authoritarian and militarized administration that would do us harm. Fitzpatrick is mute, head down, hoping no one will notice that he is ghosting us. Move along! Nothing to see here! Nothing to say here! Hardly bi-partisan. His silence is compliance. We hear it loud and clear, and will remember as November 2026 draws ever near.
