Trump is spending an awful lot of time, energy and media posts harping on “our country.” “Our country is dead.” “Our country is stronger than ever.” Such-and-so “is very bad for our country.” Using “our” implies inclusiveness, but Trump’s “our” does not include me. Trump’s “our” does not include everyday people who struggle to afford healthcare and pay for groceries, who need a decent wage and affordable housing. The Republican House and Senate members have hied off to their stately abodes, dodging action on any legislation that could provide a hint of relief to (or sympathy for) our growing financial straits. We are not included in their country just as we are not included in Trump’s. 2026 is fast approaching, and there are fissures appearing in Trump country, chinks and rifts we can exploit and work to our advantage. 2026 is our time. Time for renewed resistance, renewed resolve, a renewed promise to show up in droves at the polls in November. Because this is our country, and in 2026, We the People resolve to Take. Our. Country. Back.
