Fantasy vs Reality

Donald Trump is trying to sway us by throwing out promises that everything will be better “after the election.” Oil prices will come “tumbling down”  - “after the election.” The Iran war will end - “after the election.” You will all receive $5,000 - “after the election.”

Do not be fooled by the man in the overly-gilt Oval Office.

Here’s what is actually going to happen “after the election” thanks to the Republican passage of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).  Conveniently (and cynically) timed to begin “after the election” are significant cuts to spending for Medicaid and SNAP benefits by over $860 million, through shedding 10.5 million people from the rolls by 2034. $490 billion in cuts to Medicare are slated to begin in 2027, “after the election.” In July, the Center for American Progress concluded “approximately 16 million people could end up uninsured due to OBBBA, causing massive disruptions in health care. Congress is making historical cuts to essential services to give tax cuts to the wealthy. And the disabled people and other vulnerable communities will likely bear the greatest burden.”  When? After the election.

Equally disturbing is the Trump administration (Susie Wiles and Todd Blanche) urging Republicans not to discuss abortion rights and access to Mifepristone until - you guessed it - “after the election.” In August, Politico reported that Todd Blanche was working to ensure that abortion was banned “in every single state.” (thus breaking a 2024 Trump campaign pledge that he would “not block” access to abortion drugs.) The Washington Sun reported that one Conservative in touch with the administration said, “once the mid-terms are over and it’s truly lame-duck time, we’ve heard the gloves will be off.”

This is what is looming for the everyday American “after the election” if we do not go to the polls.  Democrats must gain control so that what these wealthy, entitled, callously cruel Republicans have enacted to our detriment can be averted and repealed to our benefit. We will do it when we show up and cast our ballots.

 Because Trump doesn’t get it.

Our vote is worth more than rubies or any precious gems - or any $5,000 bribe. It is ours alone, to cast as we see fit, and it is beyond price.
