This is what democracy looks like. Tens of thousands showed up across the country for the No Kings protests, exercising their right to stand up against Trump. 80,000 in Philly. 1,800 here in Langhorne (where some, who could not find parking, contented themselves with driving around and honking in solidarity). And Trump’s ego massaging parade co-opted from the military? Maybe tens of hundreds, if one looks at the photos. It seemed there were more in the parade than at the parade, but we all know how Trump deals with crowd sizes. This day was a huge win for those who peacefully yet forcefully resisted. San Diego police posted, “ You stayed classy, San Diego. Thanks to thousands who demonstrated peacefully today.” Police estimated 15,000 protesters in Chicago, posting, “They were very peaceful.” And in Atlanta? The Proud Boys attempted to disrupt the protest only to be outplayed by musicians, a horn section that had the brass and sass to drown them out with music (the food of love) putting those Proud Boys to shame, sending them on their way. The cost of Trump’s parade? $45 million. The No Kings protests? Priceless. This is what democracy looks like. May Stephen Miller weep. Classy, peaceful, musical multitudes. Let’s keep it up. This is our democracy. Play on!
