An article in Friday’s Inquirer highlighted that on July 23, Brian Fitzpatrick was one of four Republicans who crossed the aisle and voted for the latest Democrat-led war powers resolution to rein in Trump’s military actions in Iran. However on July 22 the $95Billion budget resolution passed in the House. While two Republicans joined Democrats in voting against it, Fitzpatrick was not one of them. Fitzpatrick stayed safely on his side of the aisle, voting with his fellow Republicans to fund the war. One cannot tout Fitzpatrick’s performative war powers voting gesture and ignore his Trumpist vote for a spending package that includes not only massive funding for Pentagon military spending, but also, more disturbingly, includes $10billion for voting law changes aligned with the SAVE America Act and proof of citizenship requirements for which Trump is relentlessly pushing and MAGA Republicans are trying to sneak through by any means necessary. These votes are very different; one is for show, the other for dough. The War powers act is purely symbolic; it does not carry the force of law and will never see the President’s desk. It is a convenient way for Fitzpatrick to look bipartisan when it doesn’t matter. Don’t be fooled. Fitzpatrick’s vote in favor of the $95Billion budget reconciliation demonstrates his true pro-Trump colors when it comes to Trump’s war and to the deleterious effects of Trump’s SAVE Act (And no, it’s not the equivalent of a photo ID for the endless pasta bar at Olive Garden). Fitzpatrick is painting a false picture of moderation when in fact, when it comes down to it, when his vote could buck the system and truly make a difference (as with the first vote on the Big Beautiful Bill that passed by one vote) Fitzpatrick dedicatedly toes the line, voting Trump/MAGA all the way.
